Aviation

Like so many others, I dreamed of flying as a child.  I suppose I was initially inspired by movies and television.  Shows like Tales of the Gold Monkey, Baa Baa Black Sheep and movies like Firefox, Cloud Dancer, Spirit of St. Louis planted the need for flying in my heart.  When I was an adolescent, I frequently flew unaccompanied from Houston to Austin to spend time with my brother in college.  When traveling around southeast Texas and south Louisiana, I'd frequently see crop dusters working the fields.  THIS WAS AWESOME!  So I decided to fly.

However, the realities (and expenses) of flying kept me grounded.  Now that I am an adult, I am working on making my dreams come true.

O safe to the Rock that is higher than I, My soul in its conflicts and sorrows would fly. So sinful, so weary, Thine, Thine would I be; Thou blest Rock of Ages, I'm hiding in Thee.
- Cushing, William Orcutt (1823-1902)
