One day I found a body in the woods
Well, first I found the bag, and I rummaged through its contents
Opened up the wallet and found her driver’s license
Then something caught my eye about fifteen yards away
Felt sick to my stomach, all the blood ran from my face
The day I found a body in the woods
The day I found a body in the woods
I found it really hard just to unlock my cell phone
I found it just as hard to dial nine one one
The lady said nine-one-one, what’s your emergency?
I told her, then I struggled how to tell them how to find me
The day I found a body in the woods
The day I found a body in the woods
Read the lady what was printed on the driver’s license
In the background was commotion, then I just heard silence
The dispatcher radioed this one specific officer
Called him by name, Joe, I think we found your daughter
The day I found a body in the woods
One day I took a walk in the woods
By random happenstance, was somewhere I’d never been
Told the head detective, not sure she believed me
There’s no ironic twist, this is how my story ends
But I still think about it every now and then
The day I found a body in the woods
