Sepia Dreams

I held my breath for a very long time to
See how it feels when I die
But I didn’t die, I fell asleep
And slipped into a sepia dream

I dreamt of hell, dreamt of heaven
Found them both, pretty boring
Angel wings, golden harp
Devil horns, electric guitar

And in my dream, wherever I was, you were
Somewhere else, lost in a maze
I’m standing there, like a fool
In my underwear, back in school

But I know the answer
Know all the answers
I know the answer
But nobody hears me

I held my breath for a very long time to
See how it feels when I die, but
But I didn’t die, I fell asleep
And slipped into a sepia dream

Dreamt of power, I could fly
Never fell, I couldn’t die
Flew so high, into the air
Hey I can see my house from here

And in my house, I saw people
Dressed in black, mourning, weeping
In a box, I can’t move
They closed the lid, lowered me down

But I know the answer
Know all the answers
I know the answer
But nobody hears me

I know the answer to life’s persistent questions
Like how to solve cold fusion
And where do all the lost left socks go?

What the meaning of is is
And what women want
How to fold a fitted sheet
And what about everything that Jerry Seinfeld finds ironic?

I held my breath for a very long time to
See how it feels when I die
But I didn’t die, I fell asleep
And slipped into a sepia dream

Dreamt you there, I saw your face
And you saw me, fade away
Invisible, I disappeared
Said the words, you needed to hear

But wide awake, I remain
By myself, alone again
You’re still away, there’s your ring
Can’t say why, but I still think

I know the answer
Know all the answers
I know the answer
But nobody hears me

I know the answer
I know the answer
But nobody hears me
